Styling with EJ Victor for Alfredo Paredes

Alfredo Paredes for EJ Victor Photography: Chris Garner

As the old saying goes, “A picture is worth 1,000 words.”

A single image can convey an entire message, or serve as a chapter within a complete visual story.

My meticulous, collaborative and organized approach to photo styling allows me great scope when communicating via image. With my experience and keen eye for detail, I am able to author comprehensive and cohesive pictorial messages.

Recently, I was hired by high-end furniture manufacturer E. J. Victor to style a promotional photoshoot. The photographs I styled are pivotal pieces of the marketing campaign created to highlight the new collection designed by industry icon, Alfredo Paredes.

Although each project I embark upon is unique, I start every one with a detail-oriented approach. My process for photography styling begins with planning and organizing concepts according to the product story. Next, I establish clear communication with the marketing team, art directors, photographer, and any other major players involved in the production crew.

While on set, communication and updates were imperative to everyone’s success. It was vital each crew member was informed of all the moving parts and details of the shoot, so every task was known and assigned.

Throughout the project, each team member executed their responsibilities remarkably well. For me, the first essential task was to map out a plan for the photography day. It was inevitable details would shift and change throughout the course the day. The ability and willingness to pivot and adapt to each revision was a key element to my styling process.

Some of my other duties included—overseeing the product in the shot, strategic placement of the product and how the supporting elements were incorporated as well as keeping additional props organized and out of the way and ready for the shot. Minute details such as keeping welt fringe aligned, crisp seams on lamp shades and unforeseen issues like leaking vases were on my radar.

The main component within every successful job is harmonic collaboration between the crew. For the EJ Victor shoot, I worked very closely with photographer Chris Garner as well as the marketing team. I planned, prepped and executed the shoot in the most creative and efficient possible manner. By acknowledging the small details, everyone involved was assured a smooth and successful experience. I enjoyed the challenges we faced as a crew, and enjoyed even more how we worked through them together. Being part of a solution oriented team is priceless.

I can confidently state my process is a proven and effective method. I thrive on tight deadlines, budget boundaries, and professional teamwork. The simple and effective approach has been, and will continue to be, honed by my experience and a drive to always grow and improve.
